Zaida R. Poese

November 25, 1916 — January 3, 2007

Zaida Ruby Evans was the 4th child of seven children born to Jack and Maude Evans on November 25, 1916 in Texas County, MO. The Evans' family lived deep in the heart of the Ozarks. The Evans' children grew up having strong character with a sense of humor that would get them through their lives and the tragic events that would occur in their future years. She would graduate from Houston High School in 1935 and would go on to teach school for several years. After 21 years of living in Texas County, Zaida left the area when she married Herbert Poese, of St. Louis County. In less than four years she would become the mother of three girls, Joanne, Jeanette and Janet. For a short time the young family moved to California where Herbert found work in the shipyards during World War II. Returning to Missouri in 1944 they purchased their first home in Bridgeton. She worked at Chromecraft Co. from 1951-1980 as a Timekeeper. After her children were grown and married, Zaida would enjoy boating, fishing, crocheting, making quilts, playing bingo and going to the Casinos. During her retirement years she enjoyed spending most all her time working outdoors keeping her flower beds and lawn immaculate. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. Zaida was the grandmother of 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. From the hills of the Ozarks to the city lights of St. Louis, Zaida experienced a full lifetime seeing many changes along the way. She was blessed with a long and mostly healthy life. The Evans' sense of humor would shine through her personality even though her final days as Dementia engulfed her body and made living difficult for her. She celebrated her 90th birthday on November 25, 2006 with many friends and family members dropping in throughout the day. The love of a wonderful mother Enriches your life and lives on Filling the days with sweet memories . . . . Long after her presence is gone. You still feel the warmth of her caring . . . Her wisdom will never part, For the love of a wonderful mother . . . Forever lives on . . . in your heart. Zaida resided at Blanchette Place Care Center for five weeks. She passed away on the 3rd day of January, 2007.
