William T. Winning

December 31, 1926 — August 18, 2007

WINNING, William (Bill) T. Jr. died on August 18, 2007, at the age of 80. Bill was born and raised in Herrin, Illinois, graduated from Herrin High School where he was a track star, competing in the 1944 Illinois state championships, and attended University of Missouri-Rolla, and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale where he was also on the track team. Bill served his country as a corporal in the Army Air Corps in the Philippines in World War II. He married Lillian Albers on March 10, 1950. Bill was a licensed surveyor for the State of Missouri for over ten years and worked in highway construction and equipment sales for many years before becoming President and owner of Winning Equipment Company in Herculaneum, MO for over twenty years. Bill was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a youth and later served as Scoutmaster of Troops 313 and 321 and earned his Wood Badge leadership award. He was also President of the Kirkwood Khoury League, earning the Khoury Association's Meritorious Service Award in 1972. He was a tremendous motivator and encourager of men, always taking time to visit with and encourage even young children. Bill was a Christian from the age of thirteen and devoted his life in service to God. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church since 1955 where he served as deacon, elder, elder emeritus, Sunday School teacher, and youth leader. While one of his passions was fly-fishing, his greatest passion was being a fisher of men through his witness for his Lord Jesus Christ. His love of family and faith in God drove him in every facet of his life, and he took great joy in seeing all of his children and grandchildren come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Lillian, his faithful love and companion for over 57 years; his children, William T. (Carol) Winning, III, of Houston, Texas, J. Patrick Winning (Lisa Baue), of St. Charles, Missouri, Dana L. Strategier, of Ballwin, Missouri, and R. Kyle (Laura) Winning, of Newport Beach, California; his grandchildren, Erika, Brian (Tina), Derek, Geoffrey and Kory Winning, Tara, John, and Kelly Strategier; great-grandson, Ashton Winning; special friends, Frank Brown, Jessica Winning, Curtis Williams, Catherine Stefanavage and Cheryl Winning; his precious Schnauzers, Sam and Ivy.
