William M. “Bill” Strang, of O Fallon, MO, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the age of 79. Loving companion of 51 years to Maria Strang, cherished son of the late William C. and Janet Rae Strang; devoted father of Karyn (Chad) Fowler; beloved grandfather of Gabriella Fowler, and Theo Fowler; dear brother of Joyce (Doug) Finch, Tom (Peggy) Strang, and Priscilla (Jim) Potter.

Bill’s professional career began with an Electrical Engineering degree from Purdue University followed by a Masters in EE from University of Missouri.  He worked for McDonnell Aircraft in St Louis, Missouri. During his time there he worked on the electrical systems for the Space Lab Project, the Mercury and Gemini Space programs along with several missile programs. He then worked for General Electric Company in the electrical power group where his work took him across North and South America to assist designing electric power distribution equipment. He later worked for Basler Electric in Highland, Illinois where he spent many productive years developing switchgear relays to control switchgear in systems used throughout the world. He was an active member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Standard Committee, and contributed to numerous papers and standards which helped progress electrical power distribution nationwide.

He also enjoyed shooting sports, particularly trap shooting. In the 1960’s he made it to Olympic trials on two occasions. In retirement he enjoyed woodworking and was an HO train enthusiast.  Throughout his life he loved to cook, and taught his family the value of preserving rich family traditions – especially those that live on in holiday memories and the dinner table.

Bill was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge # 99 of Edwardsville, Illinois, serving as their Master from 1997-2000, and again in 2002-2003.  He was a 3rd degree Master Mason, was affiliated with the Scottish Rite as well as Ainad and Moolah Shriners.
