William “Bill” Abner Monroe Gaines, of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the age of 93. Beloved husband of the late JoAnn Gaines; cherished son of the late Beatrice and Charles W. Gaines; devoted father of Reece Gaines and Melinda Dooley; father-in-law of Susan Gaines; loving grandfather of 3; treasured great-grandfather of 13 and great great-grandfather of 2; dear brother of the late Edward Maurice Gaines, Sr., the late Charles Roy Gaines, and the late Ella Jo Gaines; uncle and friend of many.

Bill and JoAnn were married for 63 wonderful years, and he knew she was the love of his life after only 5 weeks of knowing her when they married. Bill proudly and honorably served in the United States Air Force. He was a devoted member of Masonic Lodge 241 and 179 as well as the National Rifle Association. Bill also worked as a machinist for McDonnell Douglas for 25 years. Bill loved traveling and he went on lots of cruises. He loved to share stories, reading, motorcycling, and cherished his cat, Miss Kitty. Bill was proud of his Tennessee heritage. He and JoAnn would have jam sessions to Country and Blue grass music. He had a strong Christian faith and was an active volunteer in his faith community. Bill was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
