William “Bill” Lohmar

August 19, 1919 — June 21, 2010

Lohmar, Sr., William T. "Bill”, of St. Charles, Missouri, died on Monday, June 21, 2010 at the age of 90. Loving husband of Phyllis Lohmar NEE: Neal; beloved son of the late Alexander and Mary M. Lohmar; devoted father of William T. (Shirley) Lohmar, Jr. and Marilyn Kay (Lloyd) Delaney; cherished grandfather of Tim (Stephanie) Lohmar, Stacey Anzalone and Lori Myers; treasured great-grandfather of Drew and Sidney Lohmar; dear uncle of Patrick (Janice) Lohmar. William is preceded in death by his siblings, Herb Lohmar, Francis Lohmar and Kathleen Daley. William enlisted in the U.S Marine Corp in March 1939 and was discharged in January 1944. During WWII he served with the 2nd Marine Division in the Southwest Pacific. William was a member of the S.O Association since 1963. He served as Vice Chairman of Association 1973 – 1974, Chairman 1974- 1975 and Chairman of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee for a number of years. William was a life member of VFW Post 3060 in Overland Missouri. In 1945 he was employed by VFW National Rehabilitation Service as a Department Service Officer, Department of Missouri, in addition to his service work he also assisted in organizing 6 VFW Posts in Missouri. William served as Department Legislative Chairman for several years and during his term as Legislative Officer he wrote the Disabled License Bill. William appeared before the Missouri House and Senate on the bill and was successful in getting the bill passed. This was the first piece of Veteran’s Legislation passed by the Missouri House in 25 years. He was also a member of the MEDIPP Planning Committee representing all Veteran’s Organizations in Missouri. He served as Sub-Chairman of the Hospital and Medical Resolutions Committee at the National Convention for many years. Bill was a very dedicated Service Officer and was always ready to assist anyone who called upon him for service. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
