Virginia May DeFreese (nee Petracek), of Weldon Spring, MO, passed away Friday, November 29, 2024, at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Donald DeFreese; cherished daughter of the late Ludmil R. and Lottie (nee Bartunek) Petracek. Devoted mother of Donald E. (Linda) DeFreese, Diane (Bruce) Jenkins, and Carol DeFreese; loving grandmother of Christopher (Megan) DeFreese and Matthew (Paisley) DeFreese; treasured great-grandmother of Madison Branson, Austin Branson, Savannah Branson, Zachary DeFreese, and Henry DeFreese, loving aunt. Preceded in death by two grandchildren, Joseph Elfrink and Michael Elfrink, brother Robert (Mary) Petracek, brother Milo (Evelyn) Petracek, and sister Mavis (Harold) Wulf.
Virginia was an active member of several choir groups, including the Ronald Arnatt Chorale and the UMSL Community Chorus, where her beautiful voice and remarkable singing talent shone. She had a passion for sewing and crafts, a love for flowers and gardening, and found joy in birdwatching. An exceptional cook, Virginia delighted in preparing delicious meals, especially during the holidays, when she cherished spending time with her family and creating memorable gatherings around the table. Virginia was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorials may be made in Virginia's name to Five Acres Animal Shelter.
A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
