Veita Jo Hampton

Hampton, Veita Jo (nee Blevins) of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday September 4, 2018, at the age of 79.

Beloved wife of the late Joseph Leo Hampton; cherished daughter of the late Craig and Venita Blevins; devoted mother of William “Bill” (Jayne Norris) Hampton; loving grandmother of Heather Creel, Mary Jo Hampton, and Olivia Hampton; treasured great-grandmother of Lydia Belle Creel; dear sister of Herbert (Denise) “Willie” Blevins and sister-in-law Judy Blevins. Veita is also preceded in death by her brother Craig “Sam” Blevins.

Veita was a longtime English and Journalism Teacher at St. Charles High School, assistant professor of photo journalism at the University of Missouri, Columbia and assistant professor of photography and journalism at Middle Tennessee State University. She was an author, mentor, poet, photographer and friend. Veita wrote or co-authored 16 different books in her career. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
