Thomas Leo Tierney Jr.

Thomas Leo Tierney, Jr. (age 79) died peacefully at home on May 9, 2025. Beloved husband of 47 years to Debra Faye and father to Tom (Linda) Tierney, Jim (Alla) Tierney, Rich (Sari) Tierney, Maureen (Jeremy) Rootz, Amber (Corey) Perkins, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Thomas was born in St. Louis on June 19, 1945, to Thomas Leo Tierney, Sr. and Gloria (Moynihan). The oldest of five, he was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dennis.

Thomas graduated from McCluer High School in 1963 followed by a short enlistment and honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. Shortly after that he started a nearly 40-year career as a pressman at the St. Louis Post Dispatch serving in various leadership roles on the press floor and in the Union.

An avid fisherman, Tom was happiest being on the water in his boat on a crisp Fall morning.

Imperious and scrappy to the wider world, but to those that were lucky enough to know him well he was generous, loyal and loving – a proud Irish son and an even prouder Dad, Grandpa (Paw Paw), and Great Grandpa.

Memorial donations may be made in Tom's name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
