Thelma Retta Varner

Thelma R. Varner (nee Barwick), of O Fallon, MO, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late Paul Varner; cherished daughter of the late Odis and Violet Barwick; devoted mother of Karen (the late Dan) Weinzerl and the late Craig Varner; loving grandmother of Christina (Brian) Burkemper, Jennifer (Jordan) Lee and Jeffrey (Mandy) Weinzerl; treasured great-grandmother of Emily Natale, Linsey Natale, Ariana Martin, Malarie Lee, Elijah Hacke, Brooke Burkemper, Bella Weinzerl and Ethan Burkemper; great-great grandmother of Braelyn and a baby girl and baby boy on the way; dear sister of the late Ellen Stone and the late Orbin Barwick; Thelma was an aunt, cousin and friend to many.  

Thelma worked for Forest Park Elementary of the Ft. Zumwalt School District from 1967 through 1998 and held many positions; she loved working for the district and was very passionate about helping children. Thelma was very proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. 

Thelma enjoyed reading romance novels and coloring butterfly pictures. She loved to spend time with family and friends at country concerts or the bowling alley. Thelma was also a fan of  St. Louis Cardinals baseball and NASCAR, but you could also see her enjoying a good game show on TV. Thelma was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

Memorials may be made in Thelma's name to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
