Terry Patrick Joyce

July 18, 1954 — June 17, 2011

Joyce, Terry Patrick, of Weldon Spring, Missouri, died on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the age of 56. Dear husband of Linda Sue Joyce NEE: Fett; devoted father of Lindsay Ann Joyce, MD; beloved brother Tim Joyce, Tracey Joyce, and Ted Joyce; beloved brother-in-law, uncle and a friend to many. Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Eileen Joyce, his father and mother-in-law Louis Paul and Charlene Fett and his dear beloved son Brandon Patrick "BJ" Joyce. Terry was inducted into the Highland Community College Athletic Hall of Fame on August 28, 1999. As Terry Joyce's former Teachers and Coaches reminisce about what made him successful, two qualities are evident; his work ethic and competitive attitude. Terry, an HCC graduate of 1974, was one of the rare Scottie Athletes who earned the distinction of being a three sport letterman. As a member of the Scottie football team, he played quarterback, tight end, and was the team's punter; on the basketball court, Terry played forward and center; and on the baseball team he was the team's pitcher as well as seeing action at first base and third base. After Terry left HCC, he attended Missouri Southern State University; where he was recognized as an All-American tight end and punter. During his senior year, he led the country in punting average. Terry was a member of the ST. Louis Football Cardinals as their starting punter in 1976 and 1977. After leaving St. Louis in 1977, He continued his stint in the NFL by playing for the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49er's, and Detroit Lions. Terry and Linda celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on May 27, 2011 after originally meeting in May of 1976 in Kirksville, Missouri. Together, they have two children. Their daughter Lindsay is currently a second year Emergency Medicine Resident Physician at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She was formerly a Division-1A full scholarship volleyball player at the University of Alabama-Birmingham from 2000 to 2004. After graduating Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology, she returned to her home state to attend medical school. On May 16, 2009, Lindsay graduated with her Medical Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Their son Brandon, who sadly precedes his father in death, died at the age of 26, on December 28, 2010. Brandon was violently shot in the head, early in the morning of Christmas Eve 2010, during an attempted robbery. Four days after being shot, Brandon succumbed to his injuries and died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Prior to his death, Brandon was a professional football player. He spent time as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, Toronto Argonauts, and the UFL Las Vegas Locomotives (Champions, 2009 and 2010). Brandon was later signed by his hometown team, the St. Louis Rams, and was on their roster from April 29th 2010 through July 28, 2010. He eventually returned back to Coach Fassel's Las Vegas Locomotives in August of 2010 and was their starting right offensive tackle. Memorials may be made to St. Louis Ronald McDonald House or St. Louis area Shriners Hospital For Children.
