Susan Louise Dunbar
March 16, 1944 — December 25, 2021
Susan Louise Dunbar (formerly Halterman), of Saint Louis, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2021, at the age of 77. Beloved daughter of the late Melbern and Mary Louise Dunbar; devoted mother of Robert (Crissy) Halterman; cherished grandmother of Hannah Halterman, Ryan Halterman, and Georgia Halterman. Susan was also preceded in death by the father of her son, Robert J. Halterman.
Susan was a school secretary for more than 15 years and truly enjoyed working with the teachers and children at Jackson Park Elementary in University City. Upon retirement she was able to spend more time with her grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored.
Susan loved doing arts and crafts, as well as other projects with her grandchildren, who fondly called her Nana. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life, and the walls of her house were covered with their photos. She always loved to hear about their day at school and what was going on in their lives.
Susan enjoyed the history of the Civil War era and making historical miniatures, including a farm for herself. She also made a miniature castle for her grandchildren to play with. She was her son's Cub Scouts Pack leader and his biggest fan at his basketball games from kindergarten through high school.
Susan loved animals, especially cats and horses. She always had at least one cat as a pet, if not more. When she was younger, Susan enjoyed riding horses. She loved traveling and was able to visit Germany, Austria, New Zealand, Switzerland, and places throughout the U.S. including Hawaii.
Susan was a very creative artist and liked to paint and play piano. She also enjoyed gardening colorful flowers of all types. She was a good cook and looked forward to entertaining at dinner parties.
In her spare time, Susan liked watching nature shows and enjoyed telling stories. She was a lot of fun to be around, and life was always adventurous when she was with you. Susan was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
