Steven Jeffrey Smith of O'Fallon, MO, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 54. A beloved husband and friend of Lori Smith; a devoted father of Ian and Caroline Smith; cherished son of Carol and the late Dale Smith, Sr.; dear brother of Janice (Brian) Harrison and Stacia (Chris) Gwaltney; loving uncle of Shannon Bromley, Nicki Seddon, Madalyn Gwaltney, Katelyn Gwaltney, and Allen Gwaltney. Preceded in death by his father, Dale Smith, Sr., and his brother, Dale Smith, Jr.
Steve was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 19, 1971, and graduated from Metro Christian High School in 1990. He went on to Lindenwood College to pursue a degree in communications and technical theatre.
Steve was a 37-year veteran of the event industry. He started out running the audio equipment every Sunday morning at church and went on to become Vice President of Production Operations at SWITCH for nearly two decades, where his dedication, skill, and mentorship left a lasting impact on countless colleagues.
Known for his big heart and unwavering presence, Steve never missed an event or a chance to help someone in need. He never met a stranger and always made a friend wherever he went. With an infectious smile and a gift for finding humor in any situation, Steve could always lighten the mood and bring joy to those around him. A man of many talents, he could fix anything, and had a passion for audio engineering, photography, guitars, gadgets, watches, and even t-shirt collecting. He also loved and spoiled Charlie, the family golden retriever—truly the best of buddies.
Steve’s children were his pride and joy. He celebrated them continuously. He loved watching Caroline ride horses and was extremely proud of Ian’s commitment to the Electrician’s Union. His children most certainly inherited his sense of humor, kindness and servant heart.
Steve was joyful and a bundle of laughs and good times, no matter the day or circumstance. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Steve's name to St. Jude Children's Research.
