Shirley Mertz (nee Blair), of Saint Peters, MO, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Leonard "Len" Mertz and devoted daughter of the late Frank P. and Hester Blair. Shirley was the loving mother of Lynn (Stephen) Kastner, Cindy Christian, Kim Mertz, Lori (David) Millar, Julie (Wayne) Wingerter, Mary (Mark) Reichert, Jon (Monique) Mertz, and Greg (Marit) Mertz; 49 cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, dear sister of Charles (Janet) Blair, Joanne Blair, and Christine Blair; admired aunt to many nieces and nephews; precious cousin and friend. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Prep Blair, Richard Blair, Jim Blair, Steve Blair; and four sisters, Elaine James, Fran Cronley, Theresa Mullins, Judy Blair.

Shirley was a devout member of All Saints Catholic Church, whose unwavering faith served as the cornerstone of her life and family. Her commitment to her religious beliefs was reflected in her daily actions and interactions as she approached every task with a sense of compassion and kindness. Above all, Shirley’s dedication to her family was truly remarkable; she consistently put their well-being and happiness at the forefront of her priorities, whether it was offering a listening ear, providing a helpful hand, or creating cherished memories. Shirley was an excellent cook and would often make a delicious meal or treat for her family. In her free time, Shirley loved to cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals, as she fondly reminisced about the days of playing softball and basketball in her younger years. Shirley was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
