Mayer, Shirley A., of St. Charles, MO, better known as “Sam”, died June 22, 2010 at the age of 72. She was born to the late John J. and Viola Stock in St. Charles, MO. Sam graduated from St. Peters High School in 1956 and married Donald Lee Mayer, her sweetheart for 53 years. Together they raised 5 sons: Wayne, Mark, Mike, Tim and Tom. Sam was an active member of the St. Cletus Parrish in St. Charles, MO. After being a homemaker for several years, she began a career as a hair stylist, starting at Mr. Daniels and ending with Studio 3. Sam was such a fun and social person and this created an opportunity to meet and fill her life with many wonderful friends over the years. She also loved to travel so several years ago she became a tour director with Presley Tours. Once again, she never met anyone she didn’t like and treated everyone as if they were family. Sam was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Herbert and Elmer, all of St. Charles, and her sister Vera Mae of Savannah, GA. She is survived by her husband, sons, 23 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
