Sandra Jane Meyer “Sandy”, nee Sandra Louis, passed away Thursday, November 21st, 2024, at the age of 82. Beloved wife of 62 years of David Robert (Dave) Meyer; daughter of the late Charles and Alice Louis; daughter-in-law of the late Gerson and Margaret Meyer; mother of Laura Meyer, Lisa (Ronald) Grabowski, Susan (Darryl) Besse, Stephen (Jennifer) Meyer; grandmother of Meghan Grabowski, Zachary (Kayla) Grabowski, Lindsay Grabowski, Sarah Besse, Adam Besse, Abbey Meyer, Quinn Meyer, and Jake Meyer; and sister of the late Elaine (Joseph) Charlson, Linda (David) Peer, and the late Charles Louis Jr.
Sandy was born to Alice and Charles Louis on April 19, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri. Her childhood was happy and busy and enriched with sports, family activities, and friends. A family trip to the western United States in the late 1950s was especially memorable, and she spoke of it fondly for the rest of her life. She attended Sts. John and James and St. Sebastian grade schools in North County. After graduating from Incarnate Word Academy, she worked for the Frisco railroad, where she met her future husband. They were married at St. Sebastian Catholic Church on October 20, 1962.
Sandy was the very definition of “Mom.” She was creative, fun-loving, and generous, taking immense pride in the accomplishments of her children. Her investment in family was total, extending to the larger circle of cousins and to her parents, whom she lovingly cared for as they aged. Sandy worked as a checker/customer service representative at the Dellwood branch of the Schnucks grocery store chain from the 1980s until the late 1990s; her meticulous bookkeeping earned her the title of Checker of the Year twice. In 2002, Sandy and Dave moved from the house in Dellwood in which they’d raised their children to a beautiful new home in Dardenne Prairie, where she was able to express her talent for interior decorating. For the next 20 years, she spent many happy hours bird-watching at Busch Wildlife Area and on Dalbow Road, babysitting her grandchildren, and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games. Sandy will be remembered by all who knew her for her love of family, her strong faith, her excellence in the kitchen, and the wonderful Christmas celebrations she created for her family each year.
