Roy H. Coffer, born October 13, 1932 to the late Herman and RoseAnna Coffer, passed away January 3, 2018 at the age of 85. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Bernice of 66 years. He is also survived by four sons: Roy H. “Bud” Coffer, Jr., James David Coffer and wife Jacky, Kevin Alan Coffer and wife Alison, and Randy Dean Coffer; one daughter, Karen Jo Ryan and husband Michael; nine grandchildren, Sarah Coffer, Jessica Coffer, Jonathan Ryan (and wife Kimberley), Kaylah Jo Martin, Sandy Coin (and husband Ben), Shelly Martin (and husband Ronnie), KayCee Ryan, Julie Mueller (and husband Ed), and Justin Utley; and five great-grandchildren, Hudson and Onessa Ryan, Maggie Coffer, Sydney Coin, Elias and Jubilee Martin; one sister and four stepsisters: Wanda (Harold) Carlyle; Norma (Max) Carlyle, Frances (Morris) McCutchen, Helen Martinez, and one adopted brother, Roger Coffer; also numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. All were very important to Roy.
Roy was born in Wolf Island, MO, grew up in East Prairie, MO, and graduated from Anniston High School in 1950. Roy married Lillian Bernice McCann on September 28, 1951. Roy served proudly in the United States Air Force (Korean War) 1952-1956 as a ground crew chief of a B-47 bomber at Barksdale Air Force Base, Shreveport, LA. After discharge from serving, he was employed for many years at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, St. Louis as a final assembly inspector and later as Supervisor of a Quality Control Department. In 1986, Roy retired on total disability after 29-1/2 years of service.
Roy became a Christian at about 10 years of age at Wolf Island Baptist Church in Southeast Missouri. He has faithfully served First Baptist Church of O’Fallon, MO for the past 55 years in the areas of ordained deacon, children’s teacher, custodian, children’s work teacher, usher, and baptism committee chairman. Roy will always be remembered as loving God, cherishing his family, and committed to his church.
