Roger August Schroeder, of Hazelwood, MO, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at the age of 69. Husband of Linda Gail (Melton) Schroeder; dear son of the late Herman W. and Lucy Schroeder; father of Cindy (Brent) Wiesehan, Chad (Katie) Schroeder, John (Amber) Schroeder, Kate (Nathan) Schroeder-Brinkmann, and Luke Schroeder; proud grandfather of Gabbi, Sophie, Lucy, Kaylee, Charlee, Lexie, Bennett, Max, and Baby Boy Brinkmann; brother of Carol (the late Roy) Hillmann, Ruby (Tom) Wegener, Margie (the late Bob) Meiser, and Gilbert (Linda) Schroeder; adoring uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Roger was born on January 27th, 1954. Not long after that, he started working on the family farm for as long as his family could remember. As a teen, he bought his first backhoe and started his own business - R. Schroeder Excavating and Finish Grading. He married Linda, and together they started R. Schroeder Sod Farm, where the two built their life and raised their family around the big red barn. Along the way, he received a U.S. patent for his “Gopher” sod cutter design. While Roger dedicated his life to preserving the five-generation family farm, he also dedicated himself to a life of sincere generosity and unwavering support to almost everyone who knew him. He strived to be a good neighbor. Roger loved going out to lunch, getting together with friends and family, and purchasing and collecting farming and heavy equipment (but never parting ways with any of it just in case he needed spare parts). He was known to be innovative in the way he “fixed” things around the farm. He worked honestly and tirelessly in the fields right up until his passing.
Roger was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him - friends, family, and anyone who was ever told to look for the big red barn.
