Roderick Callender Gilbert was born to the late Richard and Priscilla (Pitkin) Gilbert in St. Louis, Missouri on August 15, 1959. A 1977 graduate of Webster Groves High School, Rod went on to complete his bachelor’s degree from Westminster College, where he was a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Upon graduation in 1981, he began his career at State Farm in Bloomington, IL. After several moves, including Arizona, Kansas, Texas, and South Carolina, he returned to St. Louis with his family. He was a caring husband whose love for his family was apparent to all who knew him and whose friendly demeanor and sense of humor made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Rod faithfully participated in church fellowship, serving in many roles in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is now peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father’s presence to be reunited with his late brother (Rick) and parents.
Rod married the love of his life, Zoe Soto, in 1987. He is survived by his wife, four children, and eight grandchildren: Damary (Brian) Simkins, Jordan (Kathryn) Gilbert, Samantha (Jordan) Aiono, and Ethan (Diana) Gilbert. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia (Jim) Wheeler-Jones, and brother, William (Janice) Gilbert. Grandchildren include Millie, Daniel, Arianna, Ellie, Evie, Scarlett, Harrison, and Theo.
More details to come for the Roderick Gilbert Memorial fund.
