Kelley, Robert “Bob” of St. Charles, MO, passed away Saturday October 27, 2018, at the age of 75. He was a past president of the Greater St. Louis Labor Council AFL - CIO who was active in union issues for decades.
He conquered many obstacles in his career, starting as a bagger with Rapp’s Supermarket then swiftly climbing the ranks of union leadership before retiring in 2004 as President of the Labor Council. Some of his successful highlights included helping to defeat the “Right to Work” amendment in 1978 for Missouri, serving as a member of the Democratic National Committee from 1984 through 1992, encouraging future development and job opportunities, and facilitating negotiations and contracts for workers throughout his career.
Mr. Kelley is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara Kelley; cherished children: Ann Colleen (Paul) Boschert, Amy (Russ) Phillips, Melissa “Missy” Kelley, Erin (Jason) Eberhard, Michael Kelley and Meghan (Craig) Pauly; treasured 14 grandchildren: Katelyn, Brianna, Ryan, Meghan, Ben, Kyle, Jake, Grace, Robbie, Erin, Nolan, Bobby, Sean, Brady; and two adored great-grandchildren: Lucas and Lilly. He is also survived by a dear sister-in-law Leslie (Darrel) Hardt and many beloved cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Valentine and Margaret Kelley.
