Richard James Hacker

As the middle child in a family of proud city farmers, Rich spent his childhood making lifelong memories alongside his brothers and cousins. Those early years instilled in him a strong work ethic, a quick wit, and an unwavering love for family, qualities that remained at the heart of who he was throughout his life.

Rich’s greatest blessing was the family he built. After meeting Dae Allison on a blind date, the two fell in love and were married on the second Saturday in October 1966. Together they shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage and built a loving family whose legacy now spans four generations.

For 38 years, Rich proudly served as a Telephone Man with Southwestern Bell and AT&T. He took great pride in his work, and his dedication, dependability, and kind heart earned the respect of his coworkers and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rich was a lifelong lover of sports. Whether he was playing on the field, cheering from the stands, or watching a game at home, sports brought him joy. More than the games themselves, he treasured the time spent sharing those moments with family and friends. Whether celebrating a victory, talking about the game, or simply enjoying each other’s company, those moments meant the world to him.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife, Dae Hacker; his children, Tina Hacker Sims (Erik) and Keith Hacker (Christina). His grandchildren, Cameron Maupin (Megan), and Chase Hacker. His great-grandchild, Henry Maupin. His brother, Steve Hacker (Marcia) and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Lorna Hacker, and his brother Jack Hacker (Lynne).

Rich will be remembered for his steady kindness, his sense of humor, and the unconditional love he gave his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on through his family and the friendships he cherished. His memory will continue to bring comfort, laughter, and smiles to all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be planned in the coming months to celebrate Rich's wonderful life.
