Patricia A. Bequette

Patricia Ann Bequette (nee Barfield), of O Fallon, MO, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the age of 84. Cherished daughter of the late Robert Barfield and the late Geneva Hobbs; devoted mother of Bobbette Bequette and Roxanne (Carlton) Canter; loving grandmother of Rachel (RJ Ward) Bequette, CJ Canter and Brittany Kinealy; treasured great-grandmother of Ava Bequette; dear sister of the late Robert Barfield, III; aunt of Melissa Works and Amy Shevlin.

Patricia was a dedicated optometrist whose career spanned more than 40 years, marked by deep compassion for her patients and a genuine commitment to their care. A trailblazer in her field, she was a member of the very first graduating class of the UMSL College of Optometry and one of only two women in that class—an achievement that helped pave the way for future generations of women in optometry. She was also a proud member of the American Optometric Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

She was passionate about sharing her knowledge, often visiting schools to educate young students about the field she loved.

Patricia’s interests extended well beyond her career. She was a Master Gardener who found joy in nurturing both plants and people. She enjoyed archery, golf, and challenging herself with crossword puzzles. Music was another great love of hers—especially rhythm and blues—and she cherished attending music festivals with her daughters, dancing and celebrating life together.

Above all, Patricia was a devoted caregiver who gave endlessly of herself to others. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
