Nancy J. Pruitt

Nancy Jane Pruitt (née Shipherd), 90, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 13th, 2025, in the company of her loving family. Nancy was born on October 22nd, 1934, in Syracuse, New York, as the first of four children. Growing up, Nancy took much joy in spending time with her siblings, as well as keeping busy with her social activities during school.

Nancy graduated from University of Denver; she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, and Phi Beta Kappa. While attending DU, she met her future husband, Ralph Pruitt.

Nancy earned a master's in library sciences from the University of Missouri - Columbia. She worked for the St. Charles County Library as a reference librarian until her retirement at the age of 82. She was dedicated to the arts, having been on the St. Charles County Arts Council board as a treasurer and president, as well as on the St. Charles County Youth Choir board. She survived her battle with breast cancer in 2008.

Nancy enjoyed travelling with her friends, doting on her grandchildren, and planting flowers in her garden. She was a dedicated member of the John Calvin Presbyterian Church, and will be remembered for her love of education, butterflies, nature, and family.

Nancy is predeceased by her loving husband, V. Ralph Pruitt (1986), brother, John Bennett Shipherd (2023), grandson, Matthew Logan Oldham (2021). She is survived by her two sisters, Elizabeth "Twoey" Craig and Merrilyn Foote; her three children, Cindy (Tom) Petrekovich, Linda (Jerry) Bergstrom, and Ted Pruitt; her three grandchildren, Amber Pruitt (Scott Hack), Jessica (Billy) Watts, and Daniel-Chase Pruitt; her seven great-grandchildren, Ella, Kate, Logan, Jack, and George Oldham, and Jamie and Allie Watts; her nieces and nephews, Jillian Shipherd (Sinisa), JP Shipherd (Samantha), Robert "Rob" Craig, and Heather Craig.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Parkinson’s Foundation or the Missouri Botanical Gardens – St. Louis in her honor.
