Myrtle Chidester (née: Johnson), of O'Fallon, Missouri, died on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the age of 58. She was the loving wife of Lonnie T. Chidester; beloved daughter of Loretta Johnson and the late David R. Johnson; devoted mother of Carrie (Peter) Olson and Damon (Selena) Chidester; cherished grandmother of Benjamin and Haley Olson and Ryan and Abby Chidester; dear sister of Don Johnson and Greg Johnson; and special sister-in-law of Debbie Chidester-Clampitt. She is preceded in death by one brother, David Johnson. Myrtle was a Navy Wife supporting her husband during a 35 year career. During this time, she completed her Master of Arts degree in Communicative Disorders – Speech Pathology Fresno State University, California 1990. She worked in the Fresno area as the Director of Therapy Services for several skilled nursing facilities. In 2004, she moved to St. Louis, continuing work as a Speech Therapist. After being diagnosed with Lung Cancer, she co-founded Lung Cancer Connection Inc. in 2008, providing advocacy, education, hope and support for lung cancer victims and their families in the local area.
