Mary Kay Ortt

April 29, 1950 — November 19, 2025

Saint Peters, Missouri

Mary Kay Ortt (née Schmeidler) of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away at her home on November 19, 2025, cared for lovingly by her children. Born the second of six children to the late Vernetta and Isadore Schmeidler on a farm in Hays, Kansas, she grew up surrounded by faith, family, and the values of hard work and service that shaped her life.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Mary poured her heart into her family. She is survived by her children: Anna Ortt (Jeff Mercel), Angie (Kevin) Newcombe, and Michael (Brandi) Ortt; loving grandchildren Grace Newcombe, Christian Newcombe, Olivia Ortt, Harrisson Newcombe, Kathryn Ortt, and Isaiah Kenny; and siblings Mona Fox, Laura Geschwentner, Thomas Schmeidler, and brother-in-law Jerry Honas, husband to older sister and best friend, Donna, whom she believed was waiting to greet her in Heaven.

The true center of her world, Mary delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, supporting and celebrating their many achievements in life. Mary was a constant presence at her grandchildren’s school events and athletic competitions and brought boundless spirit and enthusiasm to every game. She supported her first responders and proudly celebrated her grandson’s recent graduation as a Marine.

For more than 20 years, Mary was a dedicated and valued employee of Consumer Product Partners (previously Vi-Jon.) Known for her strong work ethic, and reliability, she continued working full-time until the day she became ill. Outside of work, she was a gifted artist and seamstress, whose quilts, costumes, dresses, and handmade pieces will be treasured.

A devout Catholic, Mary was a faithful parishioner of St. Joachim & Ann Parish, where she found strength in her community, and especially treasured the friendship of her beloved CHRP sisters. She attended Adoration every Tuesday evening and carried her faith with humility, courage, and peace—even at the end of her life.

Known for her wit, independence, and generosity, Mary touched countless lives through her kindness, devotion, and steadfast love. She will be profoundly missed and forever held in our hearts.

Memorials may be made in Mary's name to Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Center.
