Mary Jo Hurocy

September 30, 1938 — August 25, 2016

Hurocy, Mary Jo Mahan (nee: Duncan) of Granite City, IL, died Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the age of 77. Beloved wife of the late Mike Hurocy; devoted daughter of the late Orgie and Mary F. Duncan; cherished mother of Shari Handy, Kathi (Patrick) Peters, Joni (Ken) VanCoutren, Vicki (John) Phillips, Penni (Andrew) Gust, and the late April Diane Mahan; loving grandmother of Timothy (Gretchen) Handy, Jr., Serena Bray, Michelle (Tim) Kruschik, Theresa Martin (Shawn Thierath), Thomas Peters, Matthew VanCoutren, Mark VanCoutren, Clare Phillips, Josephine Phillips, Bradley Gust, Michael Gust, and Rylee Gust; treasured great-grandmother of Kaylie Bray, Timothy Kruschik, and Kennedy Theriath; beloved sister of Shannon (Tillie) Duncan, Dorothy "Dee" Christman (Dick Martina), Bud (Linda) Duncan, and Rick Duncan. She is also survived by her dear stepsons, Jerry Hurocy, Patrick Hurocy, and Richard Hurocy and their families.

Mary Jo was an anesthesia technician at Christian Northeast Hospital for many years. She also volunteered at Gateway Regional Medical Center. She was an avid sewer, was very patriotic, and had a great love of Christmas. Mary Jo also enjoyed her yearly girl’s trip with her sister. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When her daughters were young, she spent time with them as a Girl Scout leader and room mother. As her grandchildren grew up, she spent special time with each of them on “Birthday Dinners” and one on one time. She was dearly loved, and will be missed by all who knew her.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or ASPCA.
