Mary J. Kauffmann

Mary J. Kauffmann, (nee Hughes), of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the age of 91.  Loving wife of 63 years to the late Albert Kauffmann; beloved daughter of the late Charles Alfred and Anna Hughes; devoted mother of Sue (Jim) Merz, Margaret (Mike) Hay, and the late Judy Kauffmann; cherished grandmother of Julie (Aaron) Short, Mitchell Hay, and Natalia Hay; sister-in-law of Claire Hughes.  Mary was preceded in death by siblings, Charles Hughes, Robert Hughes, John Hughes, Emelia Taylor, Catherine Hughes, and Jane Jordan.  She was also a dear cousin, aunt, and friend to many.

Mary loved sewing and was an expert seamstress, who not only made her own wedding dress, but her daughters as well.  She was a member of the Craft Club and enjoyed crafting, painting, and making shadow boxes.  She was an amazing baker and everyone looked forward to dessert.   In her spare time, Mary could be found curled up reading a favorite biography, mystery, or historical fiction.  She also enjoyed spending time outside tending to her vegetable garden.  Mary was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
