Martin Karl Wittmus, of Old Monroe, MO, passed away Friday, October 2, 2026, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Sherry L. Wittmus; cherished son of the late Edmund E. and Alma M. Wittmus; devoted father of Wayne Wittmus and Karl Wittmus; loving grandfather of Alex Wittmus, Claire Wittmus, and Henry Wittmus; dear brother of Ruth Paschal. Preceded in death by his two brothers, William Wittmus and James Wittmus, and his sister, Esther Wittmus.
Martin proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for more than eight years, first as a weatherman and later at a Radar Bomb Scoring Site in South Dakota. He continued his service with the Air Force National Guard, retiring in 1989. Martin went on to spend 26 dedicated years working for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing before retiring in 2005. He was also a proud member of Local 1 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Outside of work, Martin enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including avid fishing, playing cards, gardening, and league bowling. He had a generous heart and a strong desire to help others, which led him to deliver Meals on Wheels throughout the Winfield area for many years, a service he truly enjoyed as a way of giving back to his community.
Martin’s dedication to his country, his work, his hobbies, and especially to helping others will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
