Mark Christa Hutcherson passed peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026. Mark was a long-term survivor of Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia.
Mark was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ann Hutcherson (nee McSwain) of 44 years prior to her death in 2018; the cherished son of the late William Ward and Mildred Marie Hutcherson (nee Christa); brother the late John Michael Hutcherson (Marlene); cousin Melissa Ann Runge (Robert Morris). The Hutcherson and Christa families have generations of roots in the Detroit, MI area.
Mark is also survived by cousin and caregiver Oscar J. Groebl, Jr. “Sonny” (Eric Barnes) of Cedar Hill, MO; and by dear friends Ed and Nancy O’Brien of Discovery Bay, CA; and Ellen (nee O’Brien) and Dennis Baker of Berkeley, CA.
Mark proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1974 through 1978, reaching the rank of Sargent and serving as a Weather Observer at McClellan Air Force Base near Sacramento, CA. While serving at McClellan AFB Mark met Mary Ann.
Mark was also a joyful and quirky cousin, neighbor and friend to many in Detroit, MI; Sacramento and Course Gold, CA; Lake St. Louis, MO; Bethesda Southgate Skilled Nursing Home, Oakville, MO. and finally at Avalon Memory Care, St. Louis County.
Mark will most be remembered for his corny jokes; his never-ending stories; his homemade postcards; the numerous nativity sets he created for the benefit of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Dardenne Prairie, MO; and for so many other ways he brought joy to others.
