Marie Grace Wehrman (nee Howell), of Saint Peters, MO, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Robert Wehrman; cherished daughter of the late Burton and Rose Howell; devoted mother of Janet (Rick) Preis and Jeanne (Jim) Clark; loving grandmother of Shelley Halter, Dean Preis, Joe Preis, and Rebecca (Dave) Hill; treasured great grandmother of 13 and great-great grandmother of 5; dear sister of Dorothy Euchler, Patricia Heathcote, the late Burton Howell Jr., the late Robert Howell, and the late Leroy Howell.
Marie was raised in a Coast Guard family, and her love for the ocean stayed with her throughout her life. She was happiest in Cape May, New Jersey, spending time with her family by the sea. Marie often spoke of her dream to live near the ocean, feeling the sand beneath her feet.
In her younger years, Marie worked in banking and held several accounting positions. She took great pride in her work and loved sharing stories about her skill in navigating accounting transactions to help customers.
At the age of 22, Marie married the love of her life, Robert Wehrman. Together, they purchased a small farm in St. Peters, Missouri, where they raised their two daughters. As a family, they worked the land and planted a variety of crops, including sweet corn, tomatoes, green beans, strawberries, spinach, and more. Each summer, Marie and her daughters gathered the ripe produce, after which Marie would set up her large pressure cooker to can corn, tomatoes, beans, and strawberries. Generous by nature, she delighted in sharing her homemade canned goods with family and friends.
Later in life, Marie joined her local YMCA to stay active. What began as a way to exercise soon became a source of deep and lasting friendships. She remained an active and dedicated member for more than 30 years.
During their retirement, Marie and Robert continued to stay busy by starting a small business selling Watkins products. Robert went door-to-door selling while Marie handled gathering products, packaging orders, and preparing customer invoices — work she truly enjoyed thanks to her accounting background. They ran this business for about ten years, all while continuing to care for their cherished farm.
Marie and Robert shared 69 happy years of marriage until Robert's passing in 2025. Marie loved her family with her whole heart and will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a woman whose kindness and generosity touched everyone she knew.
Memorials may be made in Marie's name to the Alzheimers Association.
