Lowell Barnes

January 19, 1944 — September 9, 2023

Lowell Paige Barnes, of Lake Saint Louis, MO, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Shirley Barnes. Cherished son of the late Joe and Ruth Barnes. Devoted father of Tiffany Paige Barnes.

In his professional and personal life Lowell provided a strong and steady foundation for himself and others to live life generously and graciously. Lowell was married to the love of his life Shirley Barnes for 50 Years. He had one daughter that could do no wrong in his eyes, Tiffany Paige. He was close with his mother Ruth Barnes, including her in the meaningful moments of his life.

Coming from humble beginnings in Petersburg, Virginia, Lowell endeavored to become a mechanical engineer and international businessman. As the marketing director of Huntsman Chemical Corporation, he traveled to over 50 countries managing all aspects related to the production and implementation of maleic anhydride. Locally, he provided counsel and mentorship as an elder to the members of Dardenne Presbyterian Church. Believing in the church’s vision, with his wife, Shirley, he led the new members program for 10 years. Earlier in life, in Guntersville, Alabama, he proudly served as the president of the Jaycees, an organization that unites communities, establishes justice, and creates sustainable impact.

Lowell enjoyed celebrating life. He loved to dance, bring joy, and play. He would tire out his wife and every woman on the dance floor. Illuminating the neighborhood with hundreds of candles, he led an annual Christmas luminary. Lowell was also passionate about golf, living in a neighborhood with a golf course and earning a hole-in-one twice. He was a sports enthusiast, watching every kind of sport there is. He always rooted for the underdog. The South Carolina Gamecocks was his favorite team, although they rarely won.

Lowell was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is remembered as being someone that you simply enjoyed being around. Most people refer to him as a kind southern gentleman.
