On Sunday, November 20, 2022, Linda Carol Schad, loving wife, mother, and coach passed away at the age of 73.
Born on November 7, 1949, in St. Louis to Edwin and Laverne Burnikel, Linda attended Holy Ghost and St. Thomas Aquinas High School alongside her beloved older sister, Debbie. With a vigor for spirit and leadership, she was captain of the cheerleading squad and performed in school plays.
Thriving at Southeast Missouri State University, Linda was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education as well as a Master’s degree in Counseling. For many decades, she applied her teaching skills at schools across the Hazelwood, Riverview Gardens, and Francis Howell School Districts as a P.E. teacher, counselor, and coach.
A dedicated and highly successful coach, Linda led the Riverview Gardens girls track team to multiple Missouri Class 4A State Championships. As a CYC coach, she led her St. Joseph-Cottleville team to three City-County Championships over four years. Her love of sports extended into avid support for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Linda cherished deep relationships with family, friends, and dogs. She and her husband of 39 years, Gary Schad, raised two daughters, Leslie, and Lindsay. She was overjoyed with love and admiration for her grandchildren, Esther, Alice, Melvin, and EJ.
A social butterfly, a beach bum, and a book worm with a green thumb, Linda threw herself into her hobbies with a passion. Impressively, while pregnant with her older daughter, she architecturally designed the two-story home in which her family has thrived since 1990. This is where Linda spent her final days.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 29 at Baue Funeral Home Cave Springs at from 4 o’clock to 8 o'clock p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 30 at St. Joseph Church in Cottleville at 10 o’clock a.m.
Memorials may be made in Linda's honor to a Dog Shelter of Donor's Choice or to ALS Association.
