Linda Sue Alderson (née Dikeman), of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 81.
She was born on January 16, 1944, in Orange County, California where her father was stationed in the military. When Linda was six weeks old, the family drove across the country and moved to Talala, Oklahoma where, in their 3-room house without running water or electricity, Linda grew up until moving to Kansas City after graduating high school.
Linda’s humble beginnings likely created her frugal personality as she sewed clothes for the family to wear (including all the Barbies in the house) and grew vegetables in the backyard for meals. Sewing clothes was a segway to a lifelong hobby of quilting.
She was a stay-at-home mom and later, when Vicki and Mike got older, she worked from home proofreading books for Western Publishing Company. She later was an Administrative Assistant in the Ethics Department at Mercy Hospital. Upon retirement, she continued volunteering for many years at Mercy, both in the gift shop and in the simulation unit for medical students. She was also active in book club, serving in roles for her neighborhood homeowner’s association and as a member of many quilting groups, including Calico Needlers, Bound Together, Little Hills Quilt Guild, Scrappy Club hosted by Kevin Huffman, and making over 160 quilts for Quilts of Valor.
Linda was a friend to many, always with an open door and a seat at the Thanksgiving table for those who had nowhere to go. Those friendships came back to her tenfold and the family would like to thank all of those who spent time with her the past few years, mailing regular cards, stopping by to visit, painting her nails, and bringing farm fresh eggs, puzzles, flowers, food and desserts for her to enjoy. The family would also like to thank her wonderful caregivers.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Ebert Keith Alderson; her loving children, Vicki (John) DuBois and Michael Keith Alderson; her cherished grandchildren upon whom she doted, Hannah (Alex) Forck, Mary Kate DuBois, Jack (Carlie) DuBois, Matthew DuBois, Jacob Alderson, and Juliet Alderson; and her adored great-grandchildren, Charlie Forck and Ruth DuBois. She is also survived by her sister, Judith Koenig; her brother, Butch (Susan) Dikeman; as well as many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Norman “Cale” Caleb Dikeman and Wilma Marie Mecklenburg, and nephew Jeff Koenig.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles, Missouri 63301 with a luncheon reception immediately following for all. A private burial was held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
