Lawrence "Feff" W. Mecey Sr.

Lawrence Mecey age 83 of St. Charles MO passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Flat River, MO on May 9, 1943, Larry, known lovingly since childhood as "Feff," a nickname given by his brother Joe who could not quite manage "Larry" as a little boy, made history in his family as the first to earn a college degree, graduating from Washington University with a degree in Chemistry.

He began his career in Monsanto’s lab and later spent many years as Director of Human Resources. The role took him around the world, and he always returned home with stories to tell, including a memorable trip to Kuala Lumpur, where the local cuisine put his sense of adventure to the test.

But for all his professional success, Feff's greatest joy was his family. He and his beloved wife, Marylyn, shared nearly 60 years of marriage, a partnership built on love, loyalty, and laughter. Together they raised two sons, Larry and Greg, whom he adored.

He was, without question, an exceptional grandfather to Drew, Ryan, and Kyle. He delighted in them, spoiled them, as any good grandpa should, and passed down his deep love of the outdoors to every one of them.

An avid hiker, camper, and RV enthusiast, Feff explored national parks across the country, often in the same well-worn pair of hiking boots he had owned for more than 30 years. Some of his happiest days were spent camping at Meramec State Park with his brothers and sisters and their families, a tradition that shaped generations of memories. Whether around a campfire with family or on a trail with his grandsons, he was happiest outside, in good company, taking his time.

He is survived by his wife, Marylyn (Manion); his sons, Larry and Greg; Greg’s spouse, Jill; and his grandsons, Drew, Ryan, and Kyle. Brother Billy (Kim) and sisters Judy Eakers and Diane Helms (Bob).

He is preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Jessaline, sister Yvonne Easter (Bunny - Alvin), and brothers Joe (Janet), Ralph (Susie), Hank (Mary).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Knight Alzheimer Research at WashU.

Feff will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous heart, his love for Marylyn and his boys, the way he spoiled his grandsons, and the many miles of trail he walked with those he loved most.
