Anna Kathryn Hakenewerth passed away July 22, 2026 at the age of 69. Kathy was born in Paducah KY on Nov. 13, 1956 to Robert and Marilyn Schaefer.
She grew up in South St. Louis, attending grade school at Epiphany and graduating high school at South West. She graduated college at Harris Stowe where she received an Art degree and earned her Masters at UMSL. She moved to St. Charles when she began teaching at Mount Hope Elementary in a 31 year career she loved with a passion. In this school she made many lifelong friends that even the mention of their names would bring a smile to her face.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Greg Hakenewerth of St. Charles, MO and six siblings who along with their spouses are ever so close to her heart. Sisters, Diane (Doug) Follmer, Laura (Rod) Franey; brothers Mike (Patricia), Dave (Patty) Richard (Debbie) and Greg (Amiee). She has three stepchildren and three grandchildren that would melt her heart every time she saw them.
Kathy loved to travel visiting Alaska, Hawaii, Germany, Mexico, Bahamas, Israel, Italy and many more. She was fun-loving and enjoyed a life of joking and practical jokes. She was a strong person having survived many illnesses. An inspiration to many people being known among the nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews as “The Fun Aunt”.
Finding her love was only a right turn away.
Kathy, we will miss you.
Memorials may be made in Anna's name to Susan G. Komen Organization.
