Kathryn "Katie" Marie Girse

March 2, 1982 — August 30, 2025

St. Charles

Kathryn "Katie" Marie Girse was born Tuesday, March 2, 1982, to Lisa Naeger Colley, and completed her earthly journey on Saturday, August 30, 2025, after a rapid decline caused by cervical cancer. With a free and untamed spirit, Katie lived her life on her own terms, even from a young age.

Katie's life was full of twists, turns, and obstacles. But being the stubborn (some might say bull-headed) woman she was, she overcame what life threw at her, and after some time, found her place in Phoenix. She was very proud of her work as a Project Coordinator for Trellis, an organization that builds housing for low- and middle- income families. She believed in their mission with her whole heart, even donating a portion of her paycheck each month to help further their work.

While in Phoenix, she was able to focus more on her health by hiking, meditating, golfing, and doing yoga. She built deep and meaningful relationships there, and together, they supported and challenged each other to be the best version of themselves.

Whatever came her way, Katie overcame it, no matter what. And likewise, she supported her children and their choices with an open heart and her fierce momma pride.

An adventurous spirit, Katie loved traveling and going on long drives. She never went a day without a smile, with her bright and radiant personality, and in the same way tried to lift up those around her. Her deep compassion for others was a gift shared from her Grandma Barb, who we feel was with her in her last moments, to guide her from this life to the next.

Katie had a close and special bond with her grandparents, Barb and Gary Naeger, both of whom predeceased her. Katie helped save her grandma's life by recognizing the signs of a stroke while she was talking with her on the phone. Their unique relationship was deep and strong. Her grandpa was so proud of her, and adored his sweet Katrinka, coming home from work at lunchtime, just to make sure his granddaughter was doing well.

The relationship between Katie and her mother, Lisa, was as complex as it was profound; woven with both trials and deep affection. Their journey together was marked by both challenge and grace, the love between them was steadfast. Her mother's support was her constant companion, surrounding her with care through every chapter of her life, which ended too shortly.

The family left to grieve this brave warrior are her Parents, Lisa Naeger Colley (Keith Colley); her Siblings, Jacob Riley (Mandie Barhoumy), Jessie Riley (Collette Riley), Kelsey Taylor (Steve Taylor, deceased), Karmen Colley, and Lucas Colley; her Children, Alyssa Sasso-Lincoln "Lee" (Ashtyn Lincoln), Natalie Girse "Bug", Trevor Girse "B", Samantha Girse "Sis", and Ella Girse "El"; her Grandson, Saint Sasso-Lincoln; her Nieces and Nephews, Micky Riley, Lauren, Easton, and Dylan Riley, AudreyAna Stout, Benny and Aleah Taylor; an army of Naeger and Riley Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins; her dear friends Nathan Hunt and Melissa Cheney; and her beloved pup, Bella.

Katie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

If you wish to honor Katie with a donation, we are working on setting up a Memorial Fund in her name with Trellis, or please make a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
