Joyce Levern Hackbarth

Joyce Levern Hackbarth, formerly Woolbright, of Maryland Heights, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026. She was born on August 9, 1943.

Joyce was a one-of-a-kind woman whose strength, creativity, humor, and remarkable resourcefulness touched everyone who knew her. She was a loving mother, devoted wife, and a retired electronics assembler who could fix almost anything. Joyce had an incredible ability to see possibilities where others saw ordinary objects. She could take almost anything lying around the house and turn it into a useful tool, a clever solution, or sometimes a work of “art.” Her solutions were not always conventional, and sometimes they looked a little unusual, but they were uniquely Joyce, and they often worked. Her family found joy and amusement in every single piece.

Joyce loved flowers and gardening, baking and making candy, and watching the birds, squirrels, and rabbits that visited her backyard. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, solving puzzles, road trips, and spending precious time with her siblings. She was creative, strong, practical, and fiercely capable. Her family could always count on her to figure things out, make things work, and find a way when no one else could. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Gene Hackbarth; her granddaughter, Lauren James-Caccia; and her siblings, E.M. Woolbright, Don Woolbright, and Austin Woolbright. 

She is survived by her children, Ken (Tracy) Hackbarth, Adam (Liz) Hackbarth, Lori (Dustin) Maxson, and Rhonda (Robin) Strong; her grandchildren, Jordan (Victoria) Hackbarth, Jessica (Zach) Warmbrodt, Kaitlin (Justin) Clouse, Nick (Coren) Anderson, Greyson Hackbarth, Drake Maxson, Kirk (Keely) Rosemann, and Kyle Ambacher; numerous great-grandchildren; her siblings, Betty Ingram (Don), Judy (Clark) Burns, and Roger Woolbright; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly. 

Joyce will be remembered for her loving heart, her wild sense of humor, her ingenuity, and her extraordinary ability to make something out of almost anything. Her legacy of love, creativity, and resourcefulness will live on in the family she loved and the many lives she touched.

A private family service will be held to celebrate her remarkable life.
