Joseph Veras

Joseph A. Veras, of O'Fallon, MO, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the age of 84. Loving husband of the late Bertha Ann Veras; beloved son of the late Alphonse and Rosaleen (Pater) Veras; devoted father of Theresa (John) Schnieders, Kristine (David) Day, and Kimberly Veras; cherished grandfather of Sarah (Kent) Gibson, Kelly (Thomas Velev) Schnieders, Luke Schnieders, Sergio Sanchez, Mario Sanchez, Alexis Sanchez, and Shawn Veras; treasured great-grandfather of Jolene, Sally, Leroy, and Ruby; dear brother of Mary Celine Beemster and Rosal (Daniel) Hoffmann; dear cousin to many. Joseph is preceded in death by his brother, Alphonse Veras.

Joe was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. After schooling, he pursued his interest in electronics working as an engineer for McDonnell Aircraft in St Louis. He met his wife Bert, and they built a family, first living in Florissant and later in O’Fallon. After a 40 year career, Joe retired from Boeing and devoted his time to family, friends, and his farm. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus. He embraced the outdoors and nature. Joe was a Master Naturalist with the Missouri Department of Conservation and was a frequent volunteer. He worked hard to ensure his own property “the farm” near Silex, remained productive and healthy as forest, field, and pasture. He loved hikes at the farm in every season. He enjoyed wildflowers in the spring, butterflies in the summer, deer and turkeys in the fall, and eagles in the winter. Joe was generous, caring and supportive. He devoted much of his time to helping others. He cherished his family and friends, always welcoming and kind. He especially enjoyed going out for breakfast (or dinner) with friends or family. It was always more about the company than the food. Joe was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be made in Joseph's name to the St. Paul Knights of Columbus.
