John William Scroggins of Saint Charles, MO, was called home to Glory on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at the age of 80.
John was an Ordained Minister and Author who devoted his life to spreading the Good News. He was the beloved oldest son of the late William and Dorothy (Caldwell) Scroggins; loving father of Eric Harris, Kadee Sanders and Dorothy Scroggins; cherished brother of Elbert Scroggins, the late Lilly (Scroggins) McMullan and the late Calvin Scroggins; devoted grandfather of Janay Sanders; treasured uncle of Jim McMullan, Annie (Scroggins) Ragland , Veronica (McMullan) Long, John Lee Scroggins, the late Tanya McMullan and Michelle (Scroggins) Bamford.
John loved the Lord and would never hesitate to stop and pray with you. He always had an encouraging word that was steeped in the gospel. John served in the United States Air Force as Air Force Police and graduated at California State University - Los Angeles with a degree in Journalism. He taught for many years in the Los Angeles School District. He overcame addiction through God's grace and shared his story in his autobiography, God of Many Chances. John was also a musician and song writer. His instruments were the piano and guitar but he excelled at the trumpet. He co-wrote “If You Feel It”, performed by Thema Houston. In 1981 “If You Feel It” peaked at #6 on the Billboard US Dance Chart.
He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
