John Openlander Sr., 71, of Seffner, FL passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with a long illness.
Born December 11, 1945 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of the late James F. Sr. and Catherine Openlander.
John was a devoted husband of 52 years, served in the United States Marine Corps, retired from retail management, and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where he was a eucharistic minister. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and spending time with family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Openlander of Lake St. Louis, MO and brother-in-law Patrick Sanborn of Chesterfield, MO.
John is survived by his wife Diane and mother-in-law Mary (Fred) Quiel; was a devoted father to John (Lynn) Openlander, Jr., and Tim (Wendy) Openlander; cherished grandfather of Tessa Openlander, Taylor Openlander, Parker Openlander and great grandfather to Klay Adam; beloved brother of James F. (Nancy), Michael (Brenda) Openlander, Mary Ann Greenwood (Bill), Katherine Berry (Alec), Patricia MacDonald, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
