John A. Dougherty grasped the hand of his beloved Blessed Mother and was carried into Heaven on September 3, 2025.
John worked as an engineer for forty years at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing St. Louis, heading the wind tunnel test facility there. His love of airplanes led him to become an active volunteer at Wings of Hope for many years. He also volunteered in many areas at his parish church, St. Robert’s, and was active in several Christian Men’s groups there, as well as supporting St. Patrick’s and St. Vincent de Paul ministries and many Prolife causes.
John was known for his honesty and integrity and his kindness toward people, and was truly an example of Christian faith in action. He was always ready with a joke or a story, and his sense of humor will be missed. Even in his final years, he always had a smile to share, and his sweet disposition made him a peaceful presence to all around him.
John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jackie Dougherty, as well as six children: John (Rose) Dougherty, Teri Kerschen, Carol (Dave) Denhard, Mary (John) Atha, Tom (Rafa) Dougherty, and JIm (Jenny) Dougherty. His legacy also includes 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Mass honoring his life on this earth and celebrating his entry into eternal life will be celebrated on Tuesday September 9, 2025 at 10:30am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church, 2 Seton Ct. in St. Charles. A viewing will be held at the church prior to Mass beginning at 9:30am. The burial service will be held at St. Philippine cemetery, 4057 Towers Rd immediately after Mass, followed by a lunch reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to Birthright of St. Charles, St. Vincent de Paul of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, or St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.
