John Deryl Bates

John Deryl Bates, of Elsberry, MO, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the age of 78. Cherished son of the late William and Viola Bates; devoted father of Shawn (Tamara) Bates, Carl (Waynette) Bates, and James Bates; loving grandfather of Wyatt, Faith, Matthew, and Maddie; treasured great grandfather of Koa; and dear brother of the late William, Richard, Virginia, Vernon, Floyd LeRoy, Lola Jean, Carl, Betty Luis, Edith Ellen, and one un-named newborn.

John enjoyed camping and spending time with his family, especially at family gatherings. Wherever his family was, that’s where he wanted to be, always the first to be there and the last to leave. He always wanted to be camping with the people he loved; it did not matter where they were. John proudly served in the United States Army and collected International Farmall tractors as a hobby. John was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
