Jeremiah W. “Jerry” Townsend

Townsend, Jeremiah W., of Johnstown, NY, died on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at the age of 79. Loving husband of Janet Townsend (nee: Kayser); beloved son of the late Grover and Josephine Townsend; loving uncle of Grover Townsend III, Irene (Danny) Sweet, Debbie (Bob) Rulison, Chyri (Gary) Venetis, Deborah (Mark) Jones, Laurie (Jeff) Venetis, Debbie (Bill) MacAfoos, and Brian Kayser; and dear brother-in-law of and James V. Kayser. He is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends. Jerry is preceded in death by his half-brother, Grover Townsend, Jr.; and his aunts, Melissa "Dolly" (Leland) Harrington and Zeida Hilley; and sister-in law, Donna Rae Foster.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. He worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa as an Accountant for over 32 years. He received his Bachelors degree from Parsons College in Fairfield Iowa and his Masters Degree from University of Northern Iowa. He was an avid reader who also enjoyed old cars, trains, and planes, listening to classical music, attending Iowa Hawkeyes football games and rooting for the New York Mets and New York Jets. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with Janet, the love of his life, and his family who will always remember him as a perfect gentleman. Bye for now, Jerry.
