Jean Marie Gray

Jean Marie Gray (nee Zei), of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Dean Gray; cherished daughter of the late Zeffiro and Dena Zei; devoted mother of Lynne Gray; dear sister of the late Armando Zei; treasured aunt of the late Bill (Betty) Zei, great-aunt of Debbie Zei, and David (Judy) Zei, great-great-aunt of Michael (Shanna) Adler, and great-great-great-aunt of William, and Ashley Jean; loving cousin of Jim Denno.

Music was central to Jean’s life. She taught music in public schools for two years before teaching piano from her home for more than 60 years. She was active in Piano Teachers’ Round Table and the St. Louis Area Music Teachers’ Association, serving as President of both organizations. She also was music director for several Presbyterian churches where she volunteered her piano, organ and choir talents. Upon joining the Center for Spiritual Living, she continued sharing her musical gifts through her faith. She served as a spiritual practitioner for over 20 years, as a piano accompanist for 15 years and 30 years as the choir director directing members to reach new heights in their singing experiences. Through the years when she was not performing music, she became a committed activist spending the 60s and 70s as an active member of the League of Women Voters and spent the 90s and 2000s becoming the best accomplished stock trader she could be. She was a strong, determined, loving, and kind woman who enriched many lives through her music and service. Jean was deeply loved and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
