Jane F. Romano

Jane Frances Romano, age 70, of St. Charles Missouri, passed peacefully, of recently diagnosed cancer, on September 3, 2026, in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was a brave fighting warrior exhibiting grace and dignity until the end.

Jane was born on May 30, 1956, in St. Louis to Wilbert and Julia Drury. She grew up in Bellefontaine Neighbors, MO and attended St Jerome Grade School and Incarnate Word Academy. She was an excellent left-handed softball first baseman and active in Girl Scouts.

Jane knew from an early age that her calling was to care for others. She began her passion and mission during high school as a candy striper and nurse’s aide at various nursing homes. In 1978, Jane completed her training as a Registered Nurse at Lutheran Medical Center, School of Nursing in St. Louis. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri St. Louis in 1998.

Jane had an extraordinary 48-year career as a Registered Nurse. Throughout nearly five decades of unwavering service, Jane touched thousands of lives. She worked at multiple hospitals and care centers in St. Louis across multiple departments, including ENT, Neurology, ICU, Case Management, Clinical Coordinator, Medical Services Specialist, spending the final 20 years of her career at SLU Care/SSM Health Dermatology in St. Louis. Known for her strong work ethic, professional demeanor, kind and caring heart, Jane was a pillar of strength to patients and a trusted mentor to generations of young medical assistants, nurses and medical staff. To her, nursing was never just a job, it was a lifelong ministry of compassion.

Jane was a devoted wife, mother, relative and friend. When not wearing scrubs, she lived life to the fullest. Jane loved reading, traveling, especially national parks, playing dominos and canasta, various games with her grandchildren and, above all, spending time with family and friends. She had a great love for all animals. Her friends describe her as “one of the funniest people we know”! Anytime one hears “Brown Eyed Girl” or the sound of a tambourine she will lovingly and fondly be remembered. She will be greatly missed.

Jane is survived by her soulmate and devoted spouse of 49 years, Frank A Romano, Jr.; daughter, Lauren; grandchildren, Zoey and Graham; brother, William Drury, OD and a tight-knit community of extended family, friends, neighbors and healthcare colleagues. Jane was preceded in death by her son, Mathew, her parents, Wilbert and Julia Drury, and her brother, Robert Drury, MD.

A celebration of Jane’s life and extraordinary legacy will be held in the Spring/Early Summer of 2027.
