Jane Marie Benefield

Jane Marie Benefield (nee Riedel), of Saint Charles, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 1, 2021, at the age of 77. Loving wife of Mike Benefield; beloved daughter of the late Josefine Marie Riedel and Erich Riedel; dear sister of Franz (Diana) Riedel and Hildegard Riedel.
Jane met her true love while out one night with friends at Schneidhorst’s Restaurant in St. Louis. She and Mike hit it off and went on their first date a few days later. They had a nice courtship and married after a couple of years. They enjoyed many years together traveling to Europe, Washington State, Lake Tahoe, and California. They shared a passion of stamp collecting, and Jane liked to search for the small countries with unique symbols on their stamps. Jane and Mike also shared a love of music and they had season tickets to the St. Louis Symphony where they attended every year to hear the beautiful sounds of Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, and many others.
Jane worked as a legal administrator for more than 20 years at a law firm in San Francisco. Upon retirement, and moving to St. Charles, she became involved throughout the community. She was the Commodore of the Admiral’s RC Model Boat Club in St. Louis. She also loved to knit, and was a master knitter, and was a member of the St. Louis Knitters Guild.
Jane loved the outdoors, and she enjoyed gardening roses and had 30 rose bushes in her front yard. She looked forward to visiting the Botanical Garden and the St. Louis Zoo as much as possible.
Jane will be remembered for her effervescent nature. She was very upbeat, very articulate, expressful and straight from the heart. She had open personality, was outgoing and she loved people. She was a wonderful companion and adoring wife. She truly enjoyed being married and it was very important to her.
Jane was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorial contributions may be made in Jane's name to Siteman Cancer Center St. Louis.
