James Arlen “Jim” Hurley, of Saint Peters, MO passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of 55 years to the late Rose Mary Hurley; cherished son of the late Arlen and Imogene Hurley; devoted father of James “Jim” A. (Terri) Hurley, Jr. and the late Michael “Mike” Keith Hurley; loving grandfather of Lauren Hurley and Lindsey Hurley; dear brother of Norma (Jerry) Galbreath, Kaye Worthington and Vicki (Gary) Moore; dear brother-in-law of Linda Greer, Carol Dobnikar and brother-in-law Donald Rae (Gloria) Hudson. Jim is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
Jim was born in Osage, Carroll County, Arkansas on September 2, 1938, and moved to Marshall, Arkansas, with his family when he was six years old. Jim graduated from Marshall High School and made every effort to attend his yearly high school reunions in more recent years. He attended Arkansas Tech University for two years but decided college wasn’t for him and he headed to Saint Louis where he became a Master Welder and met the love of his life, Rose Mary Hudson.
Jim loved going to garage sales, as he had a respect for discarded items making them reusable. After repairing them to close to perfect condition he sold them at a flea market booth on Sunday for many years. This was mostly an opportunity to visit with his buddies while negotiating “deals.”
Jim knew the value of family and friends and prioritized both. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
