James Robert Holterman was born on June 3, 1939, the first son of Carl and Alice (Ridgeway) Holterman of Mexico, Missouri. After the family moved to Saint Ann, MO, Jim attended Christian Brothers College. After graduation, he served 2 years, 9 months, and 5 days in the U.S. Army.
With an Honorable Discharge, he returned to Saint Ann, where he married the love of his life, Diane Ruth Barbier, on June 25, 1960, at St. Ann's Catholic Church. They became parents on December 4, 1961, when twin daughters Ann Marie (Ilco Divendal) and Diane Marie were born. Daughter Patricia Ann (Danny Hommes) was born in 1962, followed by a brother, Mark William (Nia Holterman) in 1965.
Jim attended Ranken Technical School and became employed at Watlow Electric. While the children were growing up, Jim attended night school at Washington University and got his degree in Application Engineering. He was employed at Watlow for 50 years and 6 months.
The young family moved to Saint Charles, MO, and were members of the Saint Cletus parish. Jim served as Eucharistic Minister for many years and was very involved with Project Fiat, an annual mission trip to El Salvador.
Jim and Diane were blissfully wedded until her passing in 2016. Fifty-six lovely years.
Jim was an avid sports fan. Whether baseball, football, or basketball, if it was on TV, it was a game worth watching.
Jim loved, and was very proud of, his four grandchildren: Dakota Hommes, Emmett Divendal, Mark Divendal, and Lydia Holterman, as well as the three step-grandchildren: Sarah Lester, Trace Gardner, and Laura Gardner, who came into his life in recent years. He was preceded in death by his grandson Samuel Thomas Holterman. He had three step-great-granddaughters: Samantha Lester, Adilayde Gardner, and Athena Gardner.
Jim is also survived by siblings-in-law: Eulah Barbier, Diane Barbier, Judy Morris, and Edward Appelbaum, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim’s last day was spent surrounded by his kids, his brother Don (Linda Holterman), and a very good friend. He passed at 11:36 PM on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
