James G. “Jim” Blattel

James G. "Jim" Blattel, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the age of 89. He was the widower of Melba "Mel" Blattel (nee: Stange); loving father of Bob (Chris) Blattel, Jim (Rhonda) Blattel, Jeff (Debbie) Blattel, John (Susan) Blattel; grandfather to Katie, Scott, Whitney, Carrie, Alyssa, Tom, Amanda, Raychel, Andrew and Nicholas; great-grandfather to Maddie, Rhiannon, Jaden, Devin and Olivia; brother to Portia, Virginia and Shirley; brother-in-law to Ruth and Peggy. Mr. Blattel was also the father of the late Mike Blattel. Mr. Blattel was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in the South Pacific. He dedicated his life to helping others as a firefighter in the St. Louis Fire Department and ended his career as captain of Engine House 20. A lifelong Cardinals fan, he also enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was first and foremost a proud father of five boys to whom he passed on his strong work ethic and strength of character. In addition to his numerous achievements, he was also a master barbecuer; everyone loved his barbecued chicken.
