James Everett Spence, age 76, of St. Peters, MO died July 8, 2019, after a long battle with colon cancer.
He was born on August 13, 1942 to Melvin H. and Helen E. Spence of Gettysburg, PA. He was raised in Gettysburg until the age of eighteen. Educated at DeVry, Chicago IL, with a two-year degree in Applied Science and a four-year degree at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, as an electrical engineer, with a minor in Bio Med.
He was employed as a manufacturing engineer, before that a design engineer with Boeing, formerly McDonnell Douglas, for forty-six and a half years, retiring at the age of seventy.
James was formerly a member of Dardenne Prairie Bible Church, O’Fallon, MO, pastored by Dan Schmidt. He has more recently attended Amazing Grace Baptist Church in St. Charles, MO, pastored by Brian Andrews.
He is proceeded in death by his father, his mother, and his brother, Dennis Spence. Survived by his wife, Barbara (Duggan) Spence, sister, Connie Wanzel, Gettysburg, PA, niece, Alisha, nephews, Damon and Dion, and their families.
Survived by his daughters, Michelle Spence, Jeanne VanHorn (Don), Erin Gardner (Terry). Four grandchildren, Michael (April), Jessica, James, and Nate. Five stepchildren, Mark, David, Stephen and Chris McCollum, Lisa Adkins and their families.
“Jim” was a very artistic and talented man. He was a strong, conscientious, hard worker all his life. A wonderful husband, father and friend, loved by all who knew him.
Now by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the cross, Jim is in Heaven today with his Saviour. Praise God.
