James D. Navin

July 18, 1936 — April 15, 2011

Navin, James D., of Lake Saint Louis, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2011. His loss will be profoundly felt by his family and the many people whose lives he so kindly touched. Jim was born to Robert and Mary Navin in Marion, Ohio where his love for the outdoors, animals, and John Deer tractors began on his uncle’s farm. He then proudly served his country with high distinction as a Russian Language Voice Radio Interceptor/Translator for the Air Force Special Ops in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, Jim continued his studies of Russian Languages, Engineering, and Business at Syracuse University and ultimately Ohio State University where he soon found the love of his life and his adored wife for over 51 years, Rita (Smarto) Navin. Jim’s accomplished career began in the Ohio State Highway Patrol, but his affinity for business development and product design drew him into the thriving field of Automobile Plant Management, where he would have a distinguished career with General Motors spanning over 35 years. His Executive standing within GM took him and his family to Chicago, Detroit, and eventually Saint Louis where he had resided for the past 17 years. Jim had a beautiful mind full of information and curiosity - fascinated with history, travel, and innovation. He truly believed that to be a good citizen was to be well-informed, educated, and hard-working. Jim practiced these beliefs daily which made him an exceptional provider for his loved ones and a true inspiration for generations to come. Jim is survived by his wife, his loving daughters, Elaine Anatra and Kristine Navin Stenzinger, and his two grandchildren, Joseph and Erin Anatra. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Masses.
